Fuch’s questions

It has both interior and outdoor space. The main space was on the stage where Hedwig was talking about her life and singing with her band. Space traveled from East Berlin to Junction City when her memories are passing by, and lingering through those intimate shared-space like her stage, bedroom with Luther, and bathroom with Tommy.

The storyline narrates Hedwig’s life in the flashbacks of the people she met throughout her life, from her mom, Luther, Tommy, and Yitzhak, and they marked different periods of Hedwig.

The climate changes from dry, cold at the East Berlin to warm and sunny in Phoenix when Hedwig moved with Luther.

Hedwig’s life is expressed differently with her lyrics and actions:
Her fun and ambiguous in “Sugar Daddy”, her romantic and sweetness in “Wicked Little Town” with Tommy, heartbroken and falling apart in “Wig in a Box” and “The Long Grift”, longing the past and desperate in “Hedwig’s Lament” of her past and her mom, and finally burst form suppression and  having peace with herself in Midnight Radio

Social World
The planet tends to be a very private world and people are interchanging their identities and appearance, like Hedwig changing from Hansel to Hedwig and Yitzhak from drag queen to become Hedwig’s husband. Discovering their true self by playing different sexual roles in their life.

Hedwig changed from yearning for another half to finding peace in herself. Through her years of sacrificing and disappointments from her father, Luther, and Tommy, Hedwig grows out of it by looking into herself and understand herself more. She is tired of being angry at the people who abandoned her when she loved them so much. Hedwig let go of them and forgive them to free herself.

The Broadway soundtrack of the Hedwig and the Angry Inch from Neil Patrick Harris brings out all the emotions of Hedwig, and I could taste that bitterness and sweetness in her heartbroken experience.

No matter we are gay, lesbian, transgender, we all wear a mask to hide or express ourselves in a different channel while we are finding love in ourselves. We yearn for love, we yearn for another half so we could be loved again, we tried, we fell apart, we lost, and we discovered that the only love we yearn for is for ourselves.

I deeply feel the same way about finding my other half. I always hope to have that person to love me in order to validate my values and complete me because I could not love myself and scared of myself. When people leave us in our childhood, it is easy to feel abandoned and lost the value of myself. I still do not know how to love myself, but I am trying to make myself better and happier, and let go of the expectations and validations from others.
